AASW (VIC) Madelene Crump Outstanding Fieldwork Educator Award: Nomina

In 2001, the Victorian Branch of the AASW received a bequest from the estate of the late Madelene Crump. The Committee of Management determined that these funds should be managed by the Lyra Taylor Fund Committee and invested, the interest so earned being used to grant an award annually from 2004, to be presented at the Branch Annual General Meeting.

The Madelene Crump Award recognizes the contribution to the profession of social work made by an outstanding fieldwork teacher. It is awarded by the Victorian Branch Committee of Management on the recommendation of the Lyra Taylor Fund Committee. All other nominees will also be publicly recognized within the Victorian Bulletin.

Eligibility for Nomination


All Victorian providers of Social Work student field-placements (social work agencies and schools of social work) are invited to nominate persons worthy of being recognised by their peers as an outstanding field teacher. The nominee must:

  • Be an accredited member of AASW and have been a member for a minimum of 5 years up to this time;
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to professional development and to the social work profession; and
  • Have participated in the Combined Schools of Social Work Field Educators’ Workshop, through either attendance or participation.

Criteria for Nomination


The nominee must:

  • Have supervised a social work student in the year that they are nominated;
  • Have supervised social work students over a period of more than 5 years;
  • Have taken a systematic and informed approach to field education and contributed to the knowledge base of field education in social work;
  • Have demonstrated innovative approaches to the field education of students;
  • Have provided field education to, and facilitated the development of, a diverse range of students; and
  • Have promoted the value of field education within the agency.


Nominations addressing each of these criteria, must be received by the office of the Victorian Branch of AASW by close of business on Monday 31st August, 2009.
