Call for Nominations - AASW Board and Branch Elections
Following the constitutional change last year the AASW is holding annual elections for Board and Branch positions in September each year. Nominations are now open for the 2009 elections. Positions available for election are:
- National Board - National Vice President (1), Director (3);
- All Branch Management Committees (BMC) - Branch Vice President (1), member (up to 5).
All the available positions have two-year terms, from October 1, 2009 until September 30, 2011.
Board and Branch elections are one of the ways AASW members shape the Association. Members are the lifeblood of the Association.
Who can stand and nominate for elections?
You must be a current financial member of the AASW to stand for election, to nominate or to second a candidate. If you haven’t yet renewed or joined yet, please do so here before completing nomination forms. Use the Membership Renewal Pack recently posted to you to help you through the online renewal process.
How do I become a candidate?
A notice calling for nominations, nomination forms and a check list and information for nominees has been posted to all members. You can use either the hard copy forms sent to you or download the form here to nominate for the National and / or Branch positions. Where a position or positions are contested by more candidates than there are vacancies, there will be an election for that position or positions.
How will voting take place?
2009 marks the beginning of online elections through the secure members’ pages of the AASW website. This will make voting easier for members. Any members who wish to receive candidates’ statements and voting papers through the post will need to notify the AASW before July 30. Elections open online on 24 August and close 18 September.
You must be a current financial member to vote in the election, so don’t forget to renew your AASW membership if you haven’t already done so.
