Preparing for your Career In Social Work

The Victorian Branch is proud to present a series of five workshops to be offered throughout 2015, aimed at assisting students and new graduates to transition from university to the workplace. It is anticipated that these workshops will provide students and new graduates with the necessary information, resources, and support to better equip them to commence their social work careers and will also provide an opportunity to network with their peers and senior social workers in the hope of creating a sense of connection and belonging to the profession.

An introduction to Social Work Employment

An informal workshop aimed at 1st year (MSW) and 3rd year (BSW) students, with a focus on identifying basic job information such as areas of practice, tips to improve employability, and providing resources to assist with future job seeking.

This session is open to 1st year (MSW & 3rd year (BSW) students.

Connecting with a Mentor

An exciting opportunity for social workers who have graduated within the past two years to be paired with a senior social worker during an informal evening event, allowing senior social workers to share their wisdom, experience, and insight with new graduates.

Thriving in your First Social Work role

A formal workshop aimed at final year students whose graduation is pending. This workshop will provide a brief overview of the interview process and refer students to additional employment resources, encourage safe and sustainable work practices, and invite students to hear directly from senior social workers regarding their experiences when beginning their career in social work.
