Dr. Sue Packer is a Pediatrician who has worked in the ACT as the Community Pediatrician and Pediatrician at the Child at Risk Assessment Unit since 1990. This has encompassed court work and consultation with schools, police, counselors, foster care and child protection services as well as involvement in children’s health services. As a result of this, and together with her own experiences as a parent, Sue has come to realize the extent of hardship and disadvantage experienced by so many children in Australia and worldwide. Her concerns about and interest in children led Sue to join several organizations including NAPCAN (National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect), AWCH (Association for Welfare of Child Health), the Early Childhood Association and Kidsafe as well as Defence for Children International. In 1999 Sue became a Member of the Order of Australia for “Services to child welfare, Pediatrics and the Community”. We are privileged to have Dr. Sue Packer as a speaker at this inaugural Social Work Community Seminar.
