Aims
The workshop will explore a ’toolbox of 80 skills’ required for effective social work and social care practice in direct work with individuals, families and groups. Most practitioners use a range of skills in their work. This workshop will focus on consolidating these skills but will also provide an opportunity to explore those areas where practitioners feel that their skills can be extended into new areas of skill development. This work with involve the use of discussion, demonstrations and other exercises but in ways that are designed be fun and enjoyable - as well as informative and interesting.
About Pamela
Dr Pamela Trevithick qualified in 1980 and since that time, has practised as a social worker in a variety of roles - residential social worker, education welfare officer, statutory social worker, groupworker and team manager. She is a former social work Programme Director at the University of Gloucestershire and is currently the Visiting Professor in Social Work at Buckinghamshire New University. In her other work, Pamela is the Chair of GAPS, a membership organisation promoting relationship-based approaches in social work, and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Social Work Practice and Communities, Families and Children Australia. Her best selling text, Social Work Skills: A Practice Handbook, is now in its 3rd edition (2012) and published by Open University Press.
