Presented by Brian Wooller: Current AASW Board Director
The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) has undertaken a lot of work examining the possibilities of legal registration of the social work profession. The strategies the Association is currently pursuing are to develop structures which will integrate professionally qualified social workers and others engaged in similar work in the human services. The rationale for this direction is that social work as a profession must have a competitive edge in order to respond to the demands of the human services, and must demonstrate the standards of practice of all who are employed in those services. This is particularly relevant where employing agencies advertise positions which are no longer designated for social workers.
This seminar will be of interest to all social workers and will provide a forum for them to ask about this strategy as a means in achieving registration. This will include the proposed College of Social Work and Pathways to membership, and the changes to the qualifying entry requirements for the profession. Social Work Students will be welcome.
BRIAN WOOLLER is currently a Board Director of the AASW and a life member. He has served the AASW and the profession in many executive positions including a number of terms as WA Branch President. Brian’s career includes work as a trainer in the human services industry, as an academic, caseworker and manager in child protection and juvenile justice, and in the not-for-profit sector.
