Full Event Description
Seminar participants can expect to achieve the following objectives:
Review the most widely accepted theoretical models of play therapy
Understand the developmental stages of children and children’s play
Identify developmentally appropriate therapy toys and art materials for assessment and treatment purposes
Learning the application of a continuum of art media, working with children and adolescents in individual and group therapy
Learn how to apply directive and non-directive approaches to individual and group play therapy with children and adolescents
Helen Power is a Social Worker, Art Therapist and Play Therapist. She completed her Bachelor of Art Education at the University of New South Wales in 1975 and taught painting and art history in Sydney for 10 years. In 1988, Helen was awarded an International Fellowship from the American Association of University Women to study Art Therapy. She completed a Master of Art Therapy at the George Washington University, Washington DC in 1990. She also completed a Master of Social Work at Catholic University, Washington DC in 1997. She is a registered Play Therapist and Supervisor with the International Play Therapy Association, US based. Helen has been in private practice for 12 years and is an artist by training and has exhibited professionally throughout her life. She resides in Virginia, near Washington DC, USA.
