Membership Fee Types

Full Fee
Reduced Fee - income

The AASW provides for a reduced fee to members with a combined taxable income below a low income threshold ($40,000.00) to enable them to remain a member and ensure their full participation in professional social work as a member of the AASW. Reduced fee members are entitled to access all of the services and benefits of a full member of AASW.

This fee is available to members upon application (and with the required documentation) who:

1. hold either an AASW approved social work qualification from an Australian tertiary institution, or social work qualification from overseas that has been assessed and the applicant has been determined to be eligible for AASW membership, and

2. provide a statutory declaration in the approved form that they have a combined taxable income, (i.e. total personal income from all sources) that is below the AASW low income threshold of $40,000.00 pa.

Evidence of a qualifying income can be provided by properly completing a statutory declaration stating that your combined taxable income will be below the low income threshold in the current membership year. The required form of the statutory declaration is as found on this website. Click here to download.

Members whose financial income changes during the year and increases beyond the low income threshold are required to immediately advise the Membership Officer who will invoice them for the balance of full fee for the year. The AASW will audit a proportion of the reduced fee applications and will ask the audited reduced fee members to provide a tax statement from the ATO or their registered tax agent, to verify their statutory declaration.

Please remember this service is there to support members whose financial circumstances may put at risk their ability to remain a member. It is important that members comply with the spirit of this service and the qualifying criteria.

New Graduate

The New Graduate Reduced Fee is for members renewing or joining within 2 years of completion of their first qualifying Social Work degree. This recognises that new graduates have many expenses to recover in their first few years after graduation and we believe that your continued membership of AASW in these years is important. Please provide a certified copy of your transcript OR degree.

Retired Fee
Student Fee

Students enrolled in an AASW accredited BSW or MSW (qualifying) and those already eligible for AASW membership and undertaking full time Masters or Doctoral social work studies.

Overseas Qualified

Those who have had a successful IQA assessment are eligible for the reduced fee if joining within 12 months of their assessment.
