Federal Budget delivers on mental health but misses the mark on employment

The AASW has warmly welcomed the Federal Budget announcements on a range of mental health initiatives, which mark a new beginning in the way Australia provides services to people with mental health issues. Funding a national mental health commission and a national mental health consumer peak body will change and improve mental health services in this country.

The release of the Review of the program has demonstrated the crucial and high quality clinical role that social workers play, as part of the Better Access program, in providing mental health services to a wide range of Australians with a range of mental health issues.

Social Workers at heart of response to crises and disasters - World Social Work Day 2011

Marking World Social Work Day 2011, the AASW has stated that Social Workers are indispensible in the response efforts to disasters and crises. Social Workers have been at the heart of responses to the floods in Queensland and to tropical cyclone Yasi.
