Become a CPE Accredited Member
An Accredited Social Worker is a member of the AASW who has met the Continuing Professional Education requirements for the preceding CPE cycle (accreditation is then valid for the next cycle). Becoming a CPE accredited member is a tangible way to demonstrate to your employer and your clients that you are committed to ongoing development and education. It is also a requirement should you wish to provide Medicare services.

Accredited Mental Health Social Workers
Accredited Mental Health Social Workers are required to accrue 30 CPE points specifically relevant to mental health each CPE cycle. These points should be gained through participating in activities under the categories of Skill Development and/or Gaining New Knowledge and Information. Mental health relevant activities should contribute to your learning and practice in working with your clients and assist you to meet AASW Practice Standards for Mental Health Social Workers (2008). Activities might include:
Each year at the end of the CPE cycle, you will be asked to submit evidence of your mental health CPE to National Office. Evidence includes:
If you have any questions you can contact the Mental Health team. You can submit your evidence during the online annual accreditation renewal or by mailing to AASW Mental Health at National Office (Moonee Ponds).
- Participation in skill development workshops and training
- Distance education/on-line learning
- Attending conferences, information sessions and other professional presentations
- Academic study
- Reading professional publications

- Copy of your CPE Logbook specifying details of the activities you have undertaken
- Copy of your certificates of your attendance
- Copy of course content for academic training and education

AASW Endorsement (Appellation)
Are you a trainer or continuing education provider?
The Australian Association of Social Workers endorses CPE activities by a process known as 'Appellation'. An Appellation is an endorsement given by the AASW to certify that a program intended for CPE has been delivered in accordance with the guidelines of the Association. A program that has received Appellation will be eligible to offer double points to participants. If you would like to apply for Appellation please refer to the AASW Appellation Guidelines & Application. Please contact our Education Officer if you would like additional information or assistance regarding the Appellation process.
