What We Do
Continuing Professional Development 2012/13
CPD is how AASW members maintain, improve and broaden their skills, knowledge and expertise, and develop the qualities required for professional practice. CPD is an ongoing process throughout a career informed by the changing practice environment, professional domains, new information and community need.
Members are responsible for their professional development. To record a professional development activity towards a CPD goal, members are required to ensure the activity is relevant to them and consistent with the categories defined below. For details of CPD goals and further information about CPD please see the CPD Policy 2012/13.
Your record of professional development activities should be kept in your ‘My CPD Record’ in your Member Account on the AASW website (member log-in required). Alternatively members may use a CPD Logbook, available below.

Members who have achieved CPD Goals in 2011/12 can request a CPD Accreditation Certificate for 2012/13. Please contact the CPD program via email: cpd@aasw.asn.au

Applying for AASW CPD Endorsement

AASW CPD Endorsement
The AASW accepts applications for endorsement of professional development activities and training providers. Applications for AASW CPD endorsement must provided detail of the learning objectives, content, evaluation requirement and presenter qualifications. Activities and providers awarded endorsement are advertised on the AASW events and are recommended to members as being suitable and relevant in contributing to the professional development of AASW members.
Activities and providers with AASW CPD endorsement are able to display the AASW Endorsed CPD logo.

Members are encouraged to use any relevant resource in the course of planning to meet their CPD needs.

Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSW) are required to complete ten (10) hours of professional development relevant to Focused Psychological Strategies for maintenance of medicare provider status under the Better Access initiative, the CBT training online may assist AMHSWs in meeting these requirements. Click here for information about the Medicare CPD requirements.
To support members in meeting this requirement the Department of Health & Ageing has funded the development of CBT Fundamentals: Processes and Techniques in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, a 10 module online training program. The CBT module is not compulsory it is optional. The development of this program has been a collaborative project between AASW, the Australian Psychological Society and Occupational Therapy Australia. Click here to access the program.
