New Points Test
New Points Test for Skilled Migrants
Information about the new points test for skilled migrants and transitional arrangements for eligible applicants, which came into effect on 1 July 2011, can be found on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website. This change relates to six categories of skilled migration visas which are listed on the DIAC’s website.

The Skilled Occupation List (SOL) was updated on the 1 July 2011, however the skilled occupation category “ANZSCO 272511 – Social Worker” remained on the list.
The key changes relevant to social workers intending to migrate to Australia under one of the six visa categories to which the points test applies are:
- the awarding of points for the highest qualification attained; and
- the awarding of points of assessed skilled employment in the nominated profession.
