Our Actions


Members and supporters

400 Members of Parliament as well as a range of other influential people in various Australian Communities have been contacted by members requesting support to raise our concerns with Health ministers.

Lobbying

In May AASW board members Prof Karen Healy and Anita Phillips and ACSW Executive Officer, Stephen Brand met at the request of the Minister, with the Federal Minister for Health, the Hon Tanya Plibersek’s senior advisor and with the Federal parliamentary Secretary (Hon Catherine King). In late June, CEO Glenys Wilkinson , registration spokesperson, Kandie Allen-Kelly and Stephen Brand held a follow up meeting with Minister Plibersek’s advisor to discuss our intended campaign.


We commenced our lobbying mid June with letters sent to all State and Territory Ministers for Health and Mental Health as well as their opposition counterparts and key independents and Members of the Greens at the Federal level of government to arrange meetings to follow up our written advice including the submission AASW made to all health ministers in October 2011.


In late June National President met with the Queensland Deputy Health minister, Anita Phillips spoke to the ACT Health Chief Executive and Kandie Allen-Kelly spoke with the NSW Health Minister’s advisor.

In July Kandie Allen-Kelly and Anita Phillips met with the ACT Health Minister’s workforce advisor, and Kandie Allen-Kelly and taskforce member Tony Howe met with Tasmanian Minister for Health and Standing Committee on Health (SCoH) chair, the Hon Michelle O’Byrne.


In August, NT Branch President, Jeanne Lorraine, Branch Vice President, Vikki Martin, National Board member, Pamela Trotman and Kandie Allen-Kelly met with NT Health Minister’s advisor, Child protection advisor and the Department Liaison officer.
