9th anniversary of the apology to the stolen generations
13th Feb 2017
On the 9th anniversary of the apology to the stolen generations, the AASW renews its call for a greater focus on justice for Indigenous people.
While the apology was an important step, little action has been taken by consecutive governments at all levels to address the major injustices and structural discriminations faced by Indigenous people.
The AASW reaffirms its commitment to continue to advocate for effective change along with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members and organisations in the areas of health and wellbeing, education, employment and child placement.
We also take this opportunity to acknowledge the strength and resilience of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues and community members. May we move forward together in a spirit of reconciliation and solidarity for a more just Australia.
