Mental health reform stakeholder group

CEO Cindy Smith represents the AASW on the Mental Health Reform Stakeholder Group, and she attended a meeting on 8 March in Canberra.  It provided an opportunity for social workers to be represented in discussions about the Commissioning of Mental Health reforms and provide input into the Government's deliberation.

Areas of discussions focussed on:

  • development of revised regional planning guidance materials
  • PHN psychosocial budget initiative guidance material
  • low intensity workforce accreditation
  • Assessment, Triage and Referral National Project

Social Work Focus - winter edition

We are seeking contributions for the Winter edition of Social Work Focus. The theme is "social work practice in welfare, housing and homelessness". Published contributions count towards CPD. The deadline for advertising and contributions is 5 May 2018.

Please read the guidance on how to write for us.

Victorian intermediaries pilot program

Ten social workers applied for the intermediary pilot program to assist vulnerable witnesses to give their best evidence in legal proceedings. Their role is to help communication with the witness and to assist the witness to give evidence to police and in court. Intermediaries are neutral and are officers of the court.

Thank you to all those who expressed interest and applied - it is great to see social workers among those doing this work.
