My Health Record update

The Australian Digital Health Agency held a Mental Health Forum with key clinical partners (including AASW) to discuss the provision of information to mental health clinicians using the My Health Record on Monday, 30 April. Prior to CEO Cindy Smith attending the forum, we sought feedback from members about their experience when engaging with the My Health Record and this information was presented at the meeting.  So far approximately 5.8 million people have registered for a My Health Record and approximately 11,000 have registered as service providers. After the Opt-Out period it is expected that closer to 98% of the Australian population will have a My Health Record by the end of 2018.

There is quite a lot of information already available on the Australian Digital Health Agency website  If you would like to further familiarise yourself with the My Health Record this is a good place to start.  We will send more information about My Health Record for members as the National Digital Health Strategy is rolled out.

Governance update

AASW Board election dates for 2018 are on our website. The nomination and election of Board members is the prerogative of the members of the AASW through the election process. Given the responsibilities of a Board, there is a need for a Board to have an appropriate mix of expertise and experience.

Board members should provide an appropriate mix of skills to provide the necessary breadth and depth of knowledge and experience to meet the Board’s responsibilities and objectives. It is a long standing governance and Corporations Act requirement that directors must act in the best interests of the corporation as a whole.

Palliative Care Week

Preparations are underway for National Palliative Care Week, to be held 20-26 May.

National Palliative Care Week is an annual awareness raising week organised by Palliative Care Australia. The theme for this year is ‘What matters most?’

The theme addresses the need for Australians to plan ahead for their end-of-life care and discuss it with their loved ones and health professionals. This year PCA will highlight how palliative care can help people with a life-limiting illness to have a high quality of life, right to the end of life.
