We are proud to promote the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples edition in time for National Reconciliation Week.

Australian Social Work: new article

Australian Social Work: The Journal of the Australian Association of Social Workers

Australian Social Work, the journal of the Association, has just published an article “We Live and Breathe Through Culture”: Conceptualising Cultural Connection for Indigenous Australian Children in Out-of-home Care, a topical read during National Reconciliation Week.

Please sign up to alerts at the Taylor & Francis website for the latest articles in Australian Social Work. Members have free access to all articles in Australian Social Work online.

Participate in research

The AASW Research Committee has approved research to gain an understanding of the knowledge and support WA members feel they need to prepare for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). You will need to attend the WA Branch Symposium to participate in the focus group.

To participate, details are on the website.

Governance update - strategy

AASW Board election dates for 2018 are on our website. The nomination and election of Board members is the prerogative of the members of the AASW through the election process. As part of this process, we are continuing our series of articles on good governance. This e-Bulletin's topic is about strategy.

Management develops the strategic plan having regard to the external environment, financial objectives (as a not-for profit, the aim is to break even after costs), the investment required to address Association’s needs and the success measures it needs to have in place to determine whether the strategies are working.  The Board approves the Strategic Plan and oversees its implementation on a regular basis.  The Annual Report provides Members with an update as to how the organisation performed in delivering the strategic objectives during the year.
