You must renew your membership and status: AMHSWs

You must renew your membership by 30 June if you rely on your AASW membership status to maintain your eligibility as a social worker provider of certain funded services.

As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW), you will need to renew your AASW membership and AMHSW status to continue to rely on your eligibility for Medicare provider status with the Department of Health into the new financial year. This also applies to eligibility for the social worker provider status that you may hold through other private health funds, as these are also founded on your AASW eligibility, membership, and accreditation status. As an AMHSW, you will also need to renew your membership by 30 June and maintain your Accredited status requirements, if you wish to continue to rely on your AASW eligibility for provider status for certain services, such as non-directive pregnancy support counselling.

Failure to renew AASW membership while continuing to bulk bill or receive provider payments for services may constitute a breach of your provider obligations with Medicare or other health funds.

When you maintain your membership, the Association stands behind you as a skilled, competent and eligible social worker, who has been assessed as meeting the relevant accreditation standards and upholding the relevant AASW Practice Standards and abiding by the AASW Code of Ethics

Today is World Refugee Day.

AASW National President Christine Craik said, “A new parliament represents a new opportunity to break with Australia’s recent past treatment of refugees, and usher in policies that are in line with our international human rights obligations."
