EOIs to participate in Code of Ethics review

As advised last week in our e-Bulletin, the AASW has commenced consultation to review our Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics expresses the values and responsibilities which are integral to, and characterise, the social work profession. The Code of Ethics assists all social workers, collectively and individually, to act in ethically accountable ways in the pursuit of the profession’s aims.

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from members to be part of focus group consultation, facilitated by Dr Craig McInnis. The focus groups will be conducted via webinar and each session will run for about 90 minutes.

We’d love to hear from you if you have experience that aligns with the following themes and can contribute to the conversation.

Session 1 – Contemporary Social Work Practice

Monday, 9 September, 2.30pm-4.00pm

  • Using contemporary technology in your practice
  • Using social media in your practice
  • Working within regulatory environments
  • Using billing technology
  • Marketing yourself or your practice

Session 2 – Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples

Wednesday, 11 September, 2.30pm-4.00pm

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Provide advice and guidance on cultural practice relevant to the Code of Ethics
  • Provide advice on inclusivity
  • Provide guidance on culturally appropriate practice more broadly

Session 3 – Sanctions

Thursday, 12 September, 2.30pm-4.00pm

  • Have undertaken roles as a supervisor of qualified social workers or students
  • Have been a manager of social workers
  • Have a sound understanding of regulatory environments
  • Experience with ethics complaints management processes

This is a once only opportunity for you to provide input into the review process.

If you’re interested and meet the criteria,  forward your Expression of Interest to Vanessa.paparone@aasw.asn.au by close of business on 6 September

In your email remember to advise which of the webinars you’re interested in contributing to, and provide a brief outline of what you will bring to the conversation in the way of experience.

Global #ClimateStrike

Health Strike for Climate

On 20 SeptemberHealth Strike 4 Climate logo, Australian health professionals will be supporting the Global School Strike for Climate. The Australian Health Strike for Climate, is calling on health professionals to join a rally, or post a message of support on social media on 20 September.

Climate change poses an increasing risk to health, as summarised in the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate (2018).

The AASW supports action on climate change because, for social workers, climate change is an environment and social justice issue.

Visit the #healthstrike4climate website for more information.

Child Protection Credential

An Expert Advisory Team has now been appointed to develop the Child Protection Capability Framework, which will underpin the new Accredited Child Protection Social Worker credential (ACPSW).

We are interested in member input in the development of this framework so please register if you would like to be part of the consultation process.
