Each financial year AMHSWs are required to meet the MH CPD Goal as a condition of ongoing Accreditation. AMHSWs have until 30 June 2018 to meet these requirements.
Requirements include at least 10 hours of CPD consistent with Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) under Medicare, in addition to 20 hours targeted to general Mental Health (MH). FPS and MH hours can be achieved via any CPD category (Supervision, Skills and Knowledge or Professional Identity).
The AASW acknowledges that members utilise a range of methods to record their supervision, consistent with their practice needs and experience, method of supervision, and supervisory relationships. Members are not required to utilise a specific proforma, template or agreement to record their supervision. For more information about supervision, please refer to the 2014 AASW Supervision Standards..
Reading and independent learning
The AASW CPD team often receives queries regarding self-directed learning, study or reading. Consistent with the AASW CPD policy, these activities can be claimed towards annual CPD requirements under Category 2: Skills and Knowledge, if relevant to a member’s social work practice and development. For evidence purposes, members are encouraged to keep a record or log of activities that contribute to self-directed learning. This may include reading books and other publications (such as journals, manuals, articles, papers) and viewing and absorbing online and multimedia content.
