The AASW's CEO, Cindy Smith, met with Federal Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health, Ken Wyatt AM, MP. A range of issues were discussed including: aged care, elder abuse and the important role that social workers play in this field, and the importance of the inclusion of age care residents in the Better Access scheme.

Update regarding the telehealth MBS items

 

The Department of Health have confirmed that the new telehealth items will be available through MBS Online website from 1 November. Medicare have expanded the eligibility, to include video consultation for focused psychological services in rural and remote areas. The new telehealth MBS items will be available to people residing in Modified Monash Model (MMM) regions four to seven, which include regional, remote and very remote locations. Medicare rebates will continue to be available for up to ten individual allied mental health services in a calendar year. From 1 November up to seven of these services may be provided via video conference, to clients residing in the above mentioned regions.

The Law and You Forum- Perspectives on voluntary assisted dying

Victorian Law Foundation is running its inaugural forum, which wil explore what the proposed legislation could mean through a panel discussion of experts covering legal and health perspectives. The recommendations made in the Final Report will also be discussed and how this will affect people receiving or working in palliative care.  

Assist to map service responses for young people with sexually abusive behaviours
The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) would like to map the current service responses for adolescents (10-17 years old) with sexually abusive behaviours. The aim is to develop a detailed understanding of effective interventions and the contextual factors affecting implementation. AIFS is looking for program managers, service practitioners/clinicians to complete an online survey about how young people's needs are being met through various therapeutic practices.
