ASWEAS Review

Make a submission to the ASWEAS review discussion paper before the 22 July 2016 deadline. Before you do, take a look at the submissions made to date on the ASWEAS review web page. The review aims to ensure the standards for entry level social work are clearly articulated, contemporary, evidence-based and benchmarked so graduates can be adequately prepared to enter the profession.

Changes to DVA registration requirements

The Department of Veterans' Affairs has advised the AASW of changes to its registration requirements for general social workers who are seeking to provide services to DVA clients.

Currently DVA registered social worker providers are required to sign a DVA Services Agreement. These agreements expired on 30 June and, to simplify the administrative processes, they will be replaced by an open-ended arrangement with no end-date. Find out more in the DVA communiqué

Working with lawyers: How social work and legal services practice in collaboration

If your social work practice or social services work involves working with lawyers and the provision of legal assistance, you are invited to participate in a study with the University of Melbourne. The study includes a 20 minute online survey and staff census (for managers and coordinators). Participants can also choose to take part in follow up interviews if they would like to discuss the research topics further.

These following research projects are also seeking participants:

  • Working for the welfare: Exploring the experiences of Indigenous child protection workers
  • An exploration of social workers’ professional identities within health settings in Queensland
  • Domestic violence screening in hospital emergency departments: Extent, models and impacts
