Australia Day Honours

Congratulations to these social workers who were awarded Australia Day honours on 26 January 2017.

Kirsten Tannebaum (OAM)

Kirsten Tannenbaum, of WA, was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for her service to community health. She has dedicated more than three decades to women who want to breastfeed in roles that include breastfeeding counsellor with the Australian Breastfeeding Association (since 1986) and WA Branch President and Assistant Branch President. John van der Giezen

John van der Giezen was named Fremantle City's Citizen of the Year for his work in mental health. He has more than 25 years’ experience in advocating for, establishing and implementing Indigenous mental health programs in WA, including with the Ruah Inreach program, Aboriginal Community Support Service, and as a founding member of Access Housing.

Simon Schrapel (AM)

South Australia's Simon Schrapel is Chief Executive of Uniting Communties, the Chair of South Australian Council for the Care of Children and the Director of Foodbank Australia. He was named a member in the General Division of the Order of Australia in acknowledgement of his significant service to the community, particularly to children and families, through social welfare organisations, programs and initiatives.

New Graduates are entitled to the AASW's professional indemnity and public liability insurance and can immediately begin recording professional development activities online. They can also register for the AASW's Social Worker trademark
