Live Online Workshop
Description
Grief and bereavement are features of life transitions that occur as we age. They also impact those who love and care for us during this period. Whilst grief and loss is a normal process that occurs as relationships and circumstances change, the impacts for older people and the family and carers who support them, require more attuned understanding and interventions. Social workers provide counselling and support to clients, family and carers during life transitions. They require knowledge and skills to understand and respond to grief and bereavement, recognise disenfranchised and complicated grief, and be familiar with best practice interventions and services for individuals and families when they experience grief and loss. This skills-based workshop will prepare participants to identify and intervene effectively when working with older people, family or carers who may be experiencing grief and loss.
Who should attend?
This workshop is ideal for those in age-related settings, or working with older people, families and carers. You will have the opportunity to build on your existing knowledge and skills by engaging in contemporary discourse on age-related grief and bereavement, meet and share with others working in this field, develop skills and apply the learnings in your own practice.
Learning Outcomes
- Recognise the types of age-related grief and bereavement that arise during life transitions.
-Describe the contemporary evidence base and interventions that support people experiencing aged-related grief and bereavement.
-Discuss how disenfranchised and complex grief may present and the type of interventions that can be utilised to respond to those experiencing this type of grief.
-Build fundamental skills in working with older people, families and carers experiencing grief and bereavement.
