Elder abuse is the mistreatment or exploitation of an older person. It can present itself in many forms and is commonly committed by someone that the older person knows and trusts.
The prevalence of elder abuse in Australian residential care is estimated to be 39.2% – Royal Commission research paper 17, December 2020.

Presenters
John-Paul Kristensen is a social worker and AASW member and has been practicing in the specialist elder abuse unit of Uniting Communities in South Australia since it’s creation in 2019. John-Paul and his team use a multi-disciplinary approach to support older people who are experiencing elder abuse, providing psychosocial assessment, safety planning, case-management and therapeutic support. John-Paul holds a Masters’ Degree in Social Work, a Bachelor of Nursing and a Diploma of Applied Science.
Nicole Stockdale is a lawyer with the Uniting Communities accredited Law Centre and is committed to applying her legal expertise to support and protect older people. Nicole works closely with social workers within the specialist Elder Abuse Unit, providing legal advice and representation to victims of Elder Abuse.
