This is the final practice group meeting for the Tas Social Worker and NDIS Practice Group We have 2 speakers planned – Brooke Kooymans and Amanda Hicks, are both part of the AASW NDIS working group and will provide attendees with an update on the working party and next steps regarding social work and NDIS.
There will also be a short reflection and celebration activity hosted by co-convenors as this practice group comes to an end.

About the Presenters:
Brooke Kooymans
Brooke brings over 20 years’ experience as a social worker in acquired disability, complex rehabilitation and catastrophic injury management working with Australia’s leading government and non-government agencies across the public and private sectors. Brooke has a BA, BSW, MSW, Grad Cert in Rehabilitation Case Management and recently completed her PhD at Griffith University.
Brooke is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Accredited Disability Social Worker, Accredited Supervisor, guest lecturer and presents at local and national conference on her work.
Amanda Hicks
Amanda is an AASW Social Worker, Educator, Lecturer and Advocate. Her passion is in working with children and adolescents who are experiencing the challenges of life, be it due to learning difficulties, trauma, anxiety or behaviour.
As an extension, she is passionate about family relationships and the disability sector. Central to the work she conducts with children and adolescents is the relationship within the family unit and how this impacts their functioning. Amanda has worked in education and disability for over 30 years and is honoured to be a Social Worker.
