The VMHPG is excited to have Jess Davis (BSW,MSW) present on Motivational Interviewing - Starting the Journey.
Motivational Interviewing- Starting the Journey.
Motivational Interviewing has evolved since its inception in the 1980’s. Most recently the core text by Miller and Rollnick came out with its fourth edition in 2023. The new edition updated concepts, language and how it is applied alongside clients looking to make change. This presentation will give an overview of some of the core theory and skills of Motivational Interviewing then look at applying this to working with clients experiencing mental ill health or psychological distress.
Jess Davis is a Social Worker with extensive experience in clinical mental health (public and forensic), workforce training/development and tertiary education. Area of expertise and interests are co-occurring mental ill health and substance use, professional training and development of clinical Mental Health staff, human rights, the social justice model of disability and inclusive education. Jess has lectured sessionally at Latrobe University in the areas of Child Protection and Mental Health. Jess has held senior leadership roles in clinical and non-clinical settings. Jess is currently working as the Social Work Clinical Educator with Grampians Mental Health and Wellbeing Service.
