Silos: lack of integration between services supporting a person
Relevance to social work: Relates to people who are clients of social work. The problem is that this issue can lead to negative outcomes for people such as neglect - people are not getting adequate service or being called in too much, services may be contradicting or working against each other, at best time wasted at worst unhelpful service or neglect. Seeking a solution to this problem aligns with social work values of professional integrity and respect for persons.
Broad relevance to members: This issue cuts across multiple fields of practice and relates to support for disadvantaged people in the community, which is relevant to all social workers.
Before the meeting, members are asked to think about this issue and ask themselves: What do I want to clarify? What do I want to get out of this discussion? What do I find challenging? What is uncertain, e.g. ethics, resources, power? Bring your questions to the meeting for discussion.
