ABOUT THE AWARD:

The Award is an initiative of the NT Branch of the AASW and commemorates and celebrates the life and work of Ms Mary Moylan. Mary died in 2002 and was acknowledged in an adjournment debate by the then Hon Jane Aagaard, Northern Territory Legislative Assembly. Mary was dedicated to maintaining and expanding her profession in the Territory. In recognition of her work it was proposed that an annual memorial award be established in her honour.

Territory Stories website tells us:

"Mary came to Darwin in 1994 taking up the position as a Social Worker with the Commonwealth Department of Social Security. Mary was the first Social Worker appointed to work with Top End remote Indigenous communities. During her eight year stay in the Territory she was involved in the disaster recovery of the Katherine floods of 1998 and the East Timor emergency in 1999."

Do you know more about Mary Moylan? If you have any stories or images of Mary (or other past winners) that you'd like to share with us, please contact the NT Branch.
