The AASW-WA Branch is pleased to be hosting a ‘Meet the Employer’ event for social work students, new graduates and those who want to know about employment opportunities. At this event you will meet employers from the welfare, community and health services sector and learn first-hand about:
• Job opportunities for social workers and career pathways;
• What to expect when going through the job application process;
• Tips on how to get your application shortlisted and good interview techniques;
• Stories from past recruitment processes, the good, the bad and... mediocre.

Mary Joyce, Head of Department, Social Work, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
Mary Joyce is currently the Chief Social Worker at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH), a 600 bed tertiary hospital in Perth, Western Australia. The Social Work Department employs approximately 50 social workers and provides a service to all clinical areas, including weekend services in high volume areas.
Following graduation she worked in the United Kingdom in hospital and elderly health care settings. Mary is a Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Managers. Mary currently sits on the Board of Studies, School of Social Work and Social Administration, University of Western Australia.


Jason Ellis, Acting Program Manager, Youth Mental Health Services, North Metropolitan Health Services Mental Health Public Health and Ambulatory Care
Jason Ellis is the Acting Program Manager at Youth Mental Health Services and a Social Worker by profession (Bachelor of Social Work 1997; Master of Social Work 2008). Jason has extensive experience in the management and implementation of mental health services for children and adolescents, youth and adults. He has overseen the implementation of Youth Axis, headspace Youth Early Psychosis Program and more recently the Youth Hospital in The Home service and played a critical role in the planning, recruitment and retainment of staff within these services.


Charlotte Cain, Operations Manager, Wanslea Foster Care
Charlotte Cain has been the Operations Manager for Out of Home Care at Wanslea since 2012 and has worked within the organisation since 2007. Charlotte's role within Wanslea is to oversee the day to day operations of the programme including recruitment and assessment of foster carers and training and development for staff and carers.

Gerda Banks, Senior Social Worker, Mental Health in SJOG Midland Hospital.
Previously Gerda held a variety of roles in several private hospitals, transitional care units and Centrelink. Before embarking on her major career change to social work in 2010, Gerda had an extensive career in insurance, PR and advertising in Australia and Europe.
