The Intimate Committed Relationship: how it can grow us up (if we’re willing) and how to work with it.
This interactive workshop is for social workers (AASW WA) and family therapists (AAFT WA) who are interested in developing their understandings and skills in counselling and casework with couples (applicable to married or de-facto, straight or gay). This workshop is based around Noel Giblett's book Marriage is for Grown Ups.
Who should attend?:
Professionals who work with couples who are interested in understanding intimate committed relationships (personally and professionally).
Goals for the course:
- Participants will have the opportunity to engage with an approach to couples work that re-envisions our assumptions, expectations and frameworks; and empowers practitioners and clients to work with difficulties and differences in a constructive, life-giving way.
Learning outcomes for participants:
- Deepened and broadened reflection on the nature of the intimate committed relationship;
- A framework for understanding the inherent challenges, difficulties and disillusionments that lie therein; and
- Ideas about ways of working with those challenges (etc).
