Behavioural Activation (BA) is one of the most effective first line treatments for people with mild, moderate and severe depression. BA is a structured time limited intervention that supports people to reengage with activities that will increase rewarding experiences in their lives.
BA has been extensively investigated in rigorous clinical trials and has empirical support. BA recognises that people when peple are assisted to structure, problem solve and focus on action-orientated activities that are valued and bring meaning then the symptoms and behaviours experienced in depression will lift. BA is a collaborative, person-centred approach that enhances self-efficacy and supports people to plan and identify goals that are meaningful to support the ongoing process of behaviour change.
- An introduction to the history, theory and practice of BA
- Opportunities to practice information gathering and giving, measures, goals and case formulations
- Discussion on how BA can be applied in a range of settings and how to support practice.
