“Trust is the conduit for influence; it's the medium through which ideas travel.” – Amy Cuddy

Influencing is not about selling or manipulation - influencing skills enable individuals to deliver messages successfully, to shift the direction of a conversation, to get a point across, and to encourage behaviour and decisions in clients and colleagues - even without formal authority.

Influencing is a key part of communication for social workers. Through their interactions with clients, families and groups, as well as other professionals, social workers can positively influence outcomes and empower the people they work with to improve their lives.

This interactive webinar will offer participants the opportunity to reflect on their influencing skills and will equip them with techniques and strategies to successfully manage a range of influencing conversations, in a variety of situations.

It will draw on the principles of influence and how these can be applied in a way that is effective and, more importantly, ethical.

Who should attend? Suitable for any level of practitioner who wishes to develop their influencing skills.

1.5 hours of CPD activity: Category 2, skills and knowledge
AASW Credential: Supervision (coming soon)

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this 90-minute webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify why influencing is a necessary skill for work
  • Distinguish ethical influencing from manipulation
  • Leverage the principles of influence to successfully manage conversations
  • Structure an influencing conversation
