EMDR is a therapy designed to assist those suffering trauma and has been endorsed by the World Health Organisation as an effective treatment for children and adults. EMDR stands for Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing, a reference to the technique that incorporates eye movements to activate processing of traumatic memories.
First developed more than 25 years ago for use in single incident trauma, EMDR therapy is now successfully used around the world to help people from diverse cultures, and in a variety of circumstances, recover from the effects of trauma.
This introductory webinar will provide attendees with an overview of the therapy to better inform their decision to commence level 1 training as an EMDR Practitioner (FPS under Medicare)
Who should attend? Evolving, Established and Expert social workers with a minimum of 2 years practice experience.
1 hour of CPD activity, attributable to Mental Health (Focussed Psychological Strategies) and Clinical credentials.
Participants will be able to;
- Clarify what EMDR is and identify suitable clients for the therapy.
- Understand the potential benefits of EMDR for clients.
- Identify innovative ways EMDR is being used in contemporary social work practice.
- Confirm Australian eligibility requirements to undertake training to become an EMDR Practitioner.
