This course discusses the topic of leadership and management. Dr Rosalie Pockett is an insightful and engaging presenter who will assist participants to gain an understanding of the different styles and approaches to leadership and how to commence the transition or develop a career plan to move into a leadership or management role.

Learning objectives

  • Have an overview of current ways of thinking about leadership and management with a particular focus on the social, health and human services context
  • Have an awareness of their own strengths and engagement with leadership and management
  • Be able to critically reflect on the opportunities and tensions of being a practitioner and manager
  • Have an understanding of inclusive approaches to leadership and management

Presenter details

Dr Rosalie Pockett is an experienced senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Social Work, the University of Sydney. Rosalie has extensive experience in hospital and health social work, where she held senior leadership and management positions in social work and allied health services. Prior to moving into academia Rosalie was the Area Director of Social Work and Deputy Director of Allied Health Services Western Sydney Area Health Service. Rosalie is an NH&MRC (National Health & Medical Research Council Australia), Travelling Fellowship recipient and a scholar of the Mount Sinai Social Work Leadership Program, New York.
