The Student Series: Social Workers in Practice provides opportunity for students to hear from professional social workers about their work and build connections within the profession. There are 8 events planned for 2019, between March and November.

Our July speaker will be Linda Ford.

Please note the change of date from 4 to 16 July. Linda will now present in person, as well as by webinar.

Linda is an Aboriginal woman from North West Queensland with 25 years experience as a social worker in rural, remote and urban areas. Linda is particularly passionate about child protection after working for 17 years in this field and more recently for the last 8 years in the area of health. Linda has also been a guest lecturer and adjunct lecturer for the James Cook University of North Queensland in the areas of Social Work Theory and Ethical Practice. She held the position of Director of Social Work at the Mount Isa Hospital, North West Hospital and Health Service for five years and was previously the North Queensland Branch President of the AASW. Linda has spoken internationally and has co-authored a book in the area of cultural practice. She is now managing the Mental Health and ATODS service in Charters Towers at the Charters Towers Community Mental Health Service and is the Aboriginal representative on the National Board of the Australian Association of Social Work.

The webinar will run from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Those attending in person are invited to join us for light refreshments beforehand from 6pm to 6:30pm, and to mingle with other social work students afterwards, from 7:30pm to 8pm.
