Research has shown that good record- keeping practices play a vital part in achieving and maximising positive client outcomes. Case notes are therefore an integral and important part of practice for practitioner’s in the Community Services Sector. This training is based on best practice-based strategies for writing and recording client interactions across a broad range of community services contexts and will focus on creative and engaging time saving ways to write professional client interactions. This training is an interactive, fast paced, and safe learning space where you will be given the opportunity to develop tools and strategies, either individually or within groups. This means there will be a high level of participation required and an expectation that you will contribute to the learning of the training group.

  • Subjective and Objective reporting
  • Case Note Essentials and general practice standards
  • Common reporting problems
  • Amending client case notes
  • Areas of the Law
  • Advocating for Clients
  • Worker professionalism
  • Quality control
  • Proof reading your case notes
  • Helpful ways to collect and collate
  • Overview of reporting models and templates client information
  • Creating your own Case Note Tool Kit

The training will focus on creative and engaging time saving ways to write professional client interactions, whilst abiding by legislative and statutory requirements. The workshop will be followed up with a request for feedback to help inform the content going forward.

Learning objectives

  1. Participants will increase their capacity to write good case notes.
  2. Participants with establish strategies on writing clear, concise, accurate client information
  3. Participants will increase their understanding of how case notes relate to case plans
  4. Participant will become aware of the legal requirements and expectations of the sector if client case notes are subpoenaed
  5. Participants will have the opportunity to network and share their organisations case note documentation with the view to extend their knowledge around case note procedure

Presenter details

Sarah Capriotti: Working in Community Services for over 15 years. Sarah has extensive experience working with young people and their families. Along with this experience Sarah has held leadership/managerial positions in a number of not-for-profit organisations for over 5 years. Throughout her career Sarah has held some type of training role, and has worked for TAFE and delivered workshops/programs in this setting and others. For the past 5 years Sarah have worked as a trainer for both TAFE SA and IKON Institute of Australia Sarah holds the following qualifications: Cert IV TAE Dip in Youth Work and Youth Justice Is a Child Safe, ASIST and A Common Approach Trainer.

Nicole Black: Working in Community Services for over 25 years. Nicole has extensive experience working within community services. Working in varied workplaces from not-for-profit organisations and local government Nicole have held various roles with the community services sector. These experiences include but not limited to, community development, group work and alternative education. Throughout her career Nicole has held some type of training role, and has worked for TAFE and delivered workshops/programs in this setting and others. Along with this experience Nicole has held leadership/management roles for over 10 years within the community services sector across a number of non-for-profits organisations. Nicole holds the following qualifications: Equivalent qualifications to Cert IV in Youth Work, TAE and is a Child Safe trainer
