This workshop will outline:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) overview
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Contextual blindness and Social Work approaches
  • Applying ACT with children and adults with ASD

Participants will:

  • Understand how Autism affects the daily lives of children, adults and families
  • Gain a basic understanding of ACT from a social work perspective, particularly the hexaflex
  • Have the knowledge to apply basic ACT principles when working with children with ASD
  • Have the knowledge to apply basic ACT principles when working with adults with ASD
  • Gain further insight into working with families who have a member/s with ASD

About the presenters

Toni Hanna has been a Social Worker for over 25 years and has been using ACT and providing clinical services to children and adults with ASD since 2009. She is registered with the NDIS to provide therapeutic and behavioural supports.

Johanna Ng has been working as a sole provider and Social Worker in private practice for the last 5 years assisting families to gain funding via NDIS and working as an NDIS registered social work provider and specialist support coordinator for the last 5 years with Adults, families and children who have Autism.
