This workshop will explore the focused psychological strategies of relaxation, mindfulness, guided visualisation and positive self talk. These strategies are intervened within various psychotherapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.

Guided visualisation, mindfulness, positive self-talk and relaxation techniques are especially useful in practice with clients with emotional and mental health challenges who wish to address stress, anxiety, anger or grief and loss and negative ruminations.

The learning outcomes will include:
• Practical clinical skills to immediately apply in everyday clinical work.
• Knowledge about common symptoms in stress, anxiety and depression
• Knowledge and understanding of common reactions and consequences of prolonged stress, anxiety, anger and negative ruminations
• Knowledge and practical skills in using positive self talk, relaxation, mindfulness and guided visualisation techniques in a clinical social work practice.
• Specific knowledge on the use of focused psychological strategies with people with mental illness and NDIS participants.

About the presenter - Alicja Weidner

Alicja Weidner is the Principal Director at H-L Therapy. Alicja brings with her 23 years of professional practice experience in the areas of aged care, disability, rehabilitation, mental health, project work and policy development.

She is an AMHSW, member of the AASW, Clinical Member of the Australian Hypnotherapists Association, member of the Primary Health Network, Multidisciplinary Health Practitioners Network and a number of Mental Health Professional Networks in South Australia. She is also an NDIS registered provider. Alicja was employed by the state government in a range of clinical roles, providing interdisciplinary, functional and mental health assessments and clinical services for adults and older people with complex and specialised needs.
