Introduction to Social Work Private Practice (onsite in Darwin or nationwide via webinar)

Are you currently in private practice? Are you considering going into private practice? Are you interested in how the social work profession and private business co-exist? Doug and Brooke will deliver this introductory training into business practice sharing valuable expertise, insights and start up tips.
The session will commence with a one hour workshop led by local social worker in private practice, Toni Ryan (photo), Insight Professional Services. The discussion with NT social workers will contextualise private practice as it applies in the Territory.
The following 2 hours of the webinar will be delivered by Doug and Brooke, social workers who will offer their experience in private practice utilising social work principles, ethics and current recognised business practices.
- Considerations for transitioning into private practice
- Introduction into business planning
- Start up tips and managing a diverse practice
- Overview of new skills required i.e. ethical marketing, generating referrals and tendering
- Insights into Medicare, accreditation NDIS and risk management
- Resources for social workers in private practice.

Food and Refreshments will be provided, lunch will commence at 1pm.
Doug is a convenor of the AASW QLD Private Practice Group, Chair of SWIPP (Social Workers in Private Practice National Steering Group) and Private Practice National Steering Group). Doug as a Private Practice mentor and supervisor is well aware of the needs of social workers in this area and has run successful CPD events to packed training in Queensland for over 6 years.
Brooke has up to 20 years working with Australia’s leading government and non-government agencies and is a practising social worker with post-graduate studies and current PhD research focus ‘social work practice in the community sector’. Brooke is a fierce advocate for the social work profession, for social justice and for supporting changing needs of the profession in the environment posed by social reforms like the NDIS.
