Solution-Focussed Brief Therapy is a short-term, goals focused, evidence-based approach…which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. (https://solutionfocused.net/what-is-solution-focused-therapy/ 2022)

Social Workers seek to empower the people they work with and liberate them from social injustice. While Solution-Focussed techniques may be most useful in working at a micro level, the principles align with the belief that individuals are the experts in their lives and have the strength and knowledge to build creative solutions towards change. In promoting this belief, we, as Social Workers, promote the values we hold of respect for persons, social justice, and professional integrity.

Incorporating these techniques into practice demonstrates the power of Social Work as a profession and provides a solid framework for Social Work practice in the challenging field of crisis and short intervention work.

When a person accesses a crisis service or a service offering short intervention they are often distressed, have many issues converging or find it difficult to choose what they wish to work on. Understanding how to support an individual to make the best use of their, and your, expertise is challenging.

This webinar will draw on Solution-Focussed Brief Therapy, Client Directed-Outcome Informed Therapy, and the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics. The techniques from these models allow practitioners to maintain clarity in another’s crisis, modify their and their client’s expectations of what can be done and help clients to achieve small, but important goals to set the foundations for ongoing recovery and/or thriving in the face of adversity.

Who should attend? Evolving or established practitioners who would like to broaden their understanding of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.

Presenter

Elissa See

Elissa is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. The ChildTrauma Academy acknowledges that Elissa has completed NMT Training Certification through the Phase I level.

Elissa began her career working with people in financial and emotional crisis, which spurred her on to find more effective ways to elicit positive change in a short space of time. Understanding Solution-Focused Brief Therapy opened a new language and model of practice to her that held the person as the expert in their own life and focused on solution creation rather than problem saturation.

In her 20 year career, Elissa has carried the basic Principles of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy into longer term, developmental trauma and Eating Disorder therapy recognizing that in any healing process the individual and the therapeutic relationship hold the key for change.
