This workshop is intended for graduate clinicians who specialise in mental health interventions, including counsellors, mental health nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers.

This two-day workshop presents a highly practical and interactive workshop (case-based) for treating traumatised patients; the content is applicable to both adult and adolescent populations. Techniques are largely cognitive behavioural, evidence-based, and will be immediately useful and effective for clinical practice. The workshop includes discussion around numerous case examples and handouts. The emphasis is upon imparting practical skills and up-to-date research in this area. This workshop has been conducted across Australia and New Zealand by Leah Giarratano since 1995, although it is updated yearly based upon latest research.

  • Conduct a behavioural assessment to analyse and treatment-target dysfunctional behaviours (e.g., substance abuse, self-harm)
  • Use a variety of anger management techniques specifically designed for traumatised patients
