AASW VIC Branch presents "A day in the life of a social worker" series where the panellists from unique and diverse areas of social work practice discuss the nuances of the practice, the pathways and opportunities that lie within the industry.

Topic: A Day in the Life of a Humanitarian Social Worker

The presentation will provide an overview of what it takes to be a social worker, the role of social work in working with the asylum seeker and refugee communities, future direction, and opportunities for social workers in such settings, followed by a Q&A session.

Presenter: Jaryd Stobaus, Crisis Intervention Social Worker at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

Jaryd Stobaus is a crisis intervention social worker at The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and a volunteer for the I am Woman: Rural India project, with experience in research, project design and front line service delivery. Jaryd has experience working and studying social work in humanitarian contexts in Nepal, India and Australia and is currently studying a Master’s of International Development to compliment his existing skills and knowledge in this area. He also has experience working in the homelessness, family violence and disability fields of practice.
