Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AMHSWs) are required to maintain your annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD), in accordance with the AMHSW CPD requirements.
As the accrediting body, the AASW has the responsibility for ensuring members comply with the requirements of accreditation.
On 22 June 2022, the AASW sent a Notice of Audit to all AMHSWs, whether they had updated their CPD Record at that point in time, or not. AMHSWs have until 15 July 2022 to update their CPD Record and pay the fee. The audit will apply to a random selection of members, however all AMHSWs should check that their CPD has been completed correctly and appropriately according to AMHSW requirements. If AMHSWs feel they have achieved this, there is nothing to be concerned about.
To ensure that members are meeting their obligations the AASW will conduct the annual audit of AMHSW members' CPD activities for the 2021/2022 financial year.
What are my CPD requirements as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker?

Meeting these requirements is a prerequisite for applying for, annual renewal of, or reinstating your AMHSW status.
Important Note: All AMHSWs have a requirement to complete 10 hours of Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS). The FPS component is a requirement set by Medicare for all Allied Health professionals to ensure ongoing eligibility to provide services as listed in the Medicare Benefit Schedule.
CPD requirements are the same for part-time workers as they are for fulltime workers.
Do I need to do a CPD Plan?
We recommend that social workers do a CPD Plan each year because it allows you to reflect on your particular needs for professional development and your career goals. It allows you to research, seek out and identify the best and most relevant opportunities for your development throughout the year, rather than attempt to cram it all in prior to 30 June.
A CPD Plan is not compulsory.
Who will be selected for audit?
A random sample of participating members will be selected to participate in an audit of their CPD records. The focus of the audit is to ensure you have completed professional development relevant to your Accreditation . When will the audit take place?
On or after 15 July 2022, a notification will be sent to the selected members who will be included in the audit. This is why it is vital that all your CPD Record is updated by that date.
You will likely be audited within one month of being notified.
What happens if I don’t meet the requirements?
It is vital that you provide evidence that you have met your CPD requirements for the year. Your annual CPD is a compulsory part of your AMHSW credential. If you do not meet these requirements your credential will be at risk. In this situation, we will work with you to resolve the issues. If, in the worst-case situation, they cannot be resolved, then you may lose your credential. The AASW has an obligation to notify Medicare of members who are no longer accredited, and this may result in the withdrawal of your Medicare Provider Number.
