Take Action Kit: Lobbying Members of Parliament.

Lobbying the Federal Health Minister, your state/territory Health Minister or your Member of Parliament

  1. Use this draft email/letter - copy into a new message (or page) as a letter.
  2. Find your relevant member of parliament’s email address and copy and paste it into a new email.
  3. To personalise the email, follow the prompts in CAPITAL letters in the template below.
  4. Read if you are unsure how to address your MP.
  5. Attach the two briefings, 'Social Workers reject negative licensing scheme' and 'Inclusion of Social Workers in NRAS will better protect the public' to your email.
  6. Attach the AASW Position Paper on the Introduction of a National Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Practitioners.
  7. Copy the registration campaign secretariat into the email you send (registration@aasw.asn.au) so we can keep track of the campaign!
  8. Send the email!
  9. If you don’t get a response within a few days, follow up with a phone call
  10. If you are offered a meeting, please refer to the AASW Position Paper on the Introduction of a National Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Practitioners and the two briefings, ‘Social Workers reject negative licensing scheme’ and 'Inclusion of Social Workers in NRAS will better protect the public' to guide your discussion and to answer questions. If you get asked a question you cannot answer, let the MP know you will get back to them with the answer.
  11. Leave your Member of Parliament with a copy of both one page briefing papers attached below as well as the AASW Position Paper on the Introduction of a National Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Professionals:
