World Social Work Day 2020
World Social Work Day is celebrated each year on the third Tuesday of each March. This year, it falls on Tuesday, 17 March 2020. World Social Work Day is when we celebrate and recognise social workers as champions for social justice, self-determination and human rights.
This year's theme is Promoting the Importance of Human Relationships.
Social workers are skilled, knowledgeable and specialise in issues related to social and emotional wellbeing. Working holistically with individuals, families and communities, social workers are passionate advocates for a fairer Australia. We have created resources for organisations and individuals around Australia to host their own World Social Work Day events, available on this page.
SPECIAL NOTICE - CANCELLATION OF AASW WSWD EVENTS
Notice to AASW members and friends – AASW cancels all face-to-face World Social Work Day events.
We have been monitoring the unfolding situation regarding COVID-19 closely and we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming face-to-face events including scheduled World Social Work Day Events. It is important that we remove any risk associated with the organising of gatherings in this current environment. The health and safety of our staff, members and stakeholders is our highest priority, and we trust you will understand this decision.
We have advised members and friends of the notice to cancel events and we will be working to provide follow up information ASAP about which events in the future can move to an online option. Unfortunately not all events will be suitable to move to an online platform due to the venue and the nature of the event planned. We will provide you with further information as soon as we can.
On 17 March 2020, we want #WSWD2020 to trend on Twitter. Last year, we got to #2 on Twitter - can we take it all the way to #1 this year? Let's do it! Share your photos, videos and stories of 'human relationships' and let's celebrate social work!
