in 2016 AASW is celebrating seven decades of representing the Australian social work profession, promoting professional education and excellence, and advocating for social justice.
Today, our more than 10,000 members are supported by the Board, volunteers and 27 staff in branches in each state and territory. With over 1,000 members in 2016 South Australia alone.
SA Branch Projects
SA Branch set up a working group of volunteers to coordinate celebrating our South Australian contribution to the AASW over the past seven decades:
- Living Histories Interviews
- Snapshots of South Australian Social Workers
- AASW SA Archive Collection.
Meet some South Australian social workers through the pages provided here.
Thank you to those of you who used your finest detective skills to help us find the earliest graduates in South Australia with a social work qualification and/or the earliest social work employees in South Australia.
South Australian Archive Collections
You can explore the background of current key social work questions, dynamic issues and significant agencies in the Social Work Historical Collection at the University of South Australia.
This collection was gratefully reviewed recently and new deposits of our rich experiences and contributions to the state have been added to the collection. We are grateful to Diana Chessell and our former placement stuent kai Xue for their assistance.
You can read more about the collection from Diana Chesssell in a recent archive review she provided the SA Branch.
