History made: Social Workers Registration Bill introduced
On Wednesday, 5 September, the Hon Tammy Franks introduced the Social Workers Registration Bill to the South Australian Legislative Council. This is a great step forward working towards a national social worker registration scheme. This did not happen in isolation; there has been a long campaign over many decades from members and the Association advocating for social work registration.
We would like to acknowledge and thank all those who have been involved in the many campaigns, in particular the National Registration Taskforce, led by Board Director, Anita Phillips and the South Australian Branch.
A Registration webpage will be established to keep you up-to-date on our progress in South Australia. A template letter will be developed for our South Australian members to write to their local state MP and MLC to vote for the registration of social workers.
This development is an enormous step forward for the protection of the most vulnerable people in our communities and to maintain standards for the social work profession.
