Jill Leisegang (1943 - )
Jill grew up in South Africa, and completed her social work qualifications at the University of Natal. She arrived in Canberra in December 1966, and began work at the Canberra Community Hospital in January 1967. She then moved to Melbourne and employment at St Vincent’s Hospital. After some time back in South Africa, Jill returned permanently to Australia at the beginning of 1971, and resumed work at St Vincent’s.
Towards the end of 1971 Jill was appointed as a social worker with Prahran Council, a position she held until the end of 1989, by which time she had become manager of the department. In 1992 she began working as a consultant, primarily to local governments. She was still employed in this way at the time of the interview in October 1996.
