Our Work, Our Voice: 2025 AMHSW Workforce and Practice Survey
As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, you understand the complexity of the work, the systems you navigate, and the importance of being heard. This survey is a powerful chance to turn our collective experience into evidence. This will amplify our voice, prove our value, and drive meaningful change.
Your on-the-ground experience reveals the cracks in the system – whether it’s clunky referral processes, poor funding models, disconnected services, or a lack of appropriate services in your local area.
By sharing your insights, you will help to:
- Advocate for fairer access to mental health support
- Support stronger collaboration across health and social services, and
- Promote funding models that truly reflect how AMHSWs deliver care.
The last survey led to real change – help us go further
Data from the 2022 survey has been used to:
- Achieve fee parity for AMHSWs with psychologists under WorkCover WA
- Support the development of WorkCover QLD and RTWSA fee schedules
- Advocate for the inclusion of AMHSWs as ancillary providers under Medibank Private
- Influence submissions, including the National Suicide Prevention Strategy and NSW Parliamentary Inquiry
- Inform advocacy with key stakeholders including TAC, SIRA, icare, MAIC, and the AMA.
Your input provided critical evidence on fees, access, service delivery, assessment tools, and geographic reach – all of which helped to strengthen the profile of AMHSWs nationally.
The 2025 AMHSW Survey has now closed
Thank you to all those who took part.

- Guide policy, workforce planning, and funding models
- Communication and promotional materials to influence how AMHSWs are represented in national conversations.
Survey objectives
- Compile a comprehensive picture of AMHSWs’ scope of practice across diverse settings and client needs, supporting efforts to promote, resource, and recognise the full value of our work.
- Develop a profile of the people AMHSWs work with, including the degree of complexity, systemic barriers they encounter, and their journey navigating support services.
- Ascertain the enablers and barriers experienced by AMHSWs in providing services under different funding schemes.
- Capture robust data to build business cases to advocate to different funding schemes and assist AASW advocacy initiatives in support of AMHSWs.
